Cheltenham 2021 Thursday Selections.

Marsh Novices Chase

Envoi Allen is the 1/2 favourite and I can’t see past him.  I hope he wins for the lucky punter who stands to win £511K for a fiver on a five-timer accumulator (if he doesn’t cash out for the £275K he has been offered already).  Darver Star, third in last year’s Champion Hurdle, is 8/1 in the Without the Favourite market and back on his favoured better ground, could be the one to chase him home.

Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle

Fiendishly difficult as usual.  Milliner (each way 8/1) has crept in to this race at the bottom of the handicap for his in-form team and was the subject of positive vibes from his trainer in a preview.  The favourite for some time has been Imperial Alcazar, who has been kept in wraps for this, plenty short at 5/1 though.

Ryanair Chase

This is one of the deepest races of the week.  Melon has been second four times at the festival and could be the best of the Mullins four.  The one I like is Imperial Aura (each way 15/2), a winner at last year’s festival, who despite a fall last time out is a sound jumper and is his trainer’s best chance of the week.

Paddy Power Stayers Hurdle

Paisley Park is on a retrieval mission after last year and may go well but is too short at 2/1 in a deep race.  The Storyteller (each way 9/1) has form on the track, will like the ground and will be staying on when others have cried enough.   Bacardys, third last year,  should outrun his 50/1 odds for Mullins and Townend and could place at least.

It gets trickier from here on !!!!

Paddy Power Plate Handicap Chase

The Shunter is trying to land a £100K bonus for connections having won the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso on Saturday week.  I like the chances of Farclas each way at 6/1.  He has good form over fences and won the Triumph hurdle here in 2018.

Parnell Properties Mares Novice Hurdle

An open race.  Royal Kahala went off an 11/10 favourite last time when second to Roseys Hollow in Fairyhouse so at 11/2 she’s each way value with a 9lb pull in the weights for a 2 length beating.

Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase

Hold the Note each way 8/1 is a tentative choice for the Mick Channon team, placed in a novices handicap chase last year.
