And it’s day four of the Willie Mullins show in Punchestown. Hopefully you ae backing a few winners and staying solvent.
Race 1 – 15:40: Paddy Power Hunters Chase For The Bishopscourt Cup
Poor fare indeed to start the day and no each way options as there are only seven runners. Rewritetherules is odds on so on a purely value basis I would favour Alpha Male who has form in the race, if forced to have a bet.
Race 2 – 16:15: EMS Copiers Novice Handicap Chase
Of the three Willie Mullins contenders I would favour Asterion Forlonge who has been competing at a higher level. However his jumping can be sketchy and he has to shoulder top weight against a number of possible improvers. There is no value in his price and I would favour Dostal Phil each way to put a second winner on the board for the raiders.
Race 3 – 16:50: Hanlon Concrete Irish EBF Glencarraig Lady Francis Flood Mares Handicap Chase
A very competitive mares’ handicap chase and it would be foolish to ignore Willie Mullins given the week he’s having, soSalsaretta could go well. A mare I fancied strongly for the Aintree National was Magic of Light but she unseated early and should be fresh for this so I will give her another chance today.
Race 4 – 17:25: Paddy Power Champion Hurdle
There is not much more to say about the outstanding Honeysuckle and if she is herself, the rest won’t see which way she went. If the real Goshen turns up he could be a threat but he is quirky to say the least.
Race 5 – 18:00: Alanna Homes Champion Novice Hurdle
It would have been very hard to look past Bob Olinger here, who was simply outstanding at Cheltenham but with him now being a non runner it should open it up for Gaillard Du Mesnil, who was second to him at Cheltenham.
Race 6 – 18:35: Irish Daily Star Champion Hunters Chase
Billaway has had a long season having been to Cheltenham and Aintree, which will surely have taken a toll. Caid Du Berlais is going for the hat trick in this race and has been kept fresh for it and I fancy him to come home in front of Bob And Co.
Race 7 – 19:05: SalesSense International Novice Hurdle
A competitive event here in which many have chances and my tentative each way selection is Enda Bolger’sDreamsrmadeofthis, a good winner last time out.
Race 8 – 19:35: Avison Young Flat Race
My Mate Mozzie continues the Mullins connection here, being ridden by Patrick and having been previously with Mags. As an impressive winner first time out, it’s My Mate Mozzie for me.
